After her first husband passed away in 1997, Betty's daughter and sister-in-law encouraged her to
start painting as a good way to fill her time.  She soon developed a real interest in art and began
working in oils, pencil and watercolor.  Hoping to improve her skills, Betty started taking oil and
pastel painting lessons from Melanie Singleton in Bridgeport, TX in 2006.  She enjoys painting
portraits of her family and scenes around Wise county.  She has won numerous awards with her
work including 1st place and overall winner at the Commanche Pow Wow in 2007 and 2008.  She
continues to paint just for the pure enjoyment.

Betty was born in Waxahachie, TX and grew up in Rockwall, TX.  She moved to Wise county in
2003. She had five children but lost one son in his childhood.  She has 11 grandchildren and 8
great-grandchildren.  She is retired from the Dublin, Tx school district where she worked for 7 years.
